Foundations & Slabs in Summertown & Southern Middle Tennessee

Everything sits on the foundation. Get it wrong and nothing above it is right. We've been pouring foundations in Middle Tennessee for over 30 years.

A foundation is the most important structural element of any building. It transfers the entire weight of the structure to the ground, resists soil movement, and keeps moisture from entering the building envelope. In Southern Middle Tennessee, foundation work requires specific knowledge of local soil conditions — the limestone karst geology, expansive clay soils, and seasonal water table fluctuations that affect how foundations perform over time.

We pour monolithic slab foundations for residential and light commercial buildings. A monolithic slab combines the footing and floor slab in a single pour — the thickened edge acts as the footing while the interior is the floor surface. This is the most common residential foundation type in our area. We also pour traditional spread footings for crawl space and basement construction, and pier pads for post-frame buildings and outbuildings.

Soil prep is everything. Before we pour any foundation, we evaluate soil conditions and remove any organic material, fill dirt, or unstable ground. The sub-base is compacted in lifts and verified. In areas with known expansive clay problems — common in Maury, Lawrence, and Giles counties — we may recommend deeper footings, additional gravel base depth, or moisture barriers to reduce soil movement under the slab.

Reinforcement for foundations follows engineer specifications or IRC residential code minimums, depending on the project. Typical residential monolithic slabs get #4 rebar in the thickened edges and welded wire mesh or fiber reinforcement in the field. We also install anchor bolts for wall framing, plumbing penetrations and sleeves, and any embedded items specified in the plans. Everything is inspected before the pour — we don't cover up work that hasn't been verified.

We coordinate with general contractors, plumbers, electricians, and building inspectors on foundation projects. We understand the sequencing — plumbing rough-in has to happen before the pour, inspections have to pass before we can proceed, and the concrete has to cure before framing starts. We've done hundreds of foundations in this area and we know what the local inspectors look for.

Our Foundations & Slabs Process

Every job follows a proven process to ensure lasting results and protect your property throughout.

1

Site Survey & Soil Evaluation

We evaluate the building site, check soil conditions, review plans, and determine footing depths and slab specifications.

2

Excavation & Sub-Base

The site is excavated to grade, sub-base material is installed and compacted in lifts, and moisture barriers are placed.

3

Forming & Reinforcement

Edge forms are set to grade, rebar and wire mesh are placed per specifications, and anchor bolts and penetrations are positioned.

4

Inspection & Pour

After passing inspection, we pour, screed, and finish the slab. Curing compounds are applied and the curing timeline begins.

What Customers Say

Real reviews from homeowners and businesses across Southern Middle Tennessee.

We needed a foundation poured for a new workshop building on our property in Hohenwald. George came out, assessed the soil conditions, and recommended a thicker footing because of the slope. The building contractor said it was one of the best foundations he'd set a building on. Highly recommend.

Hohenwald

We had George's crew replace our old driveway in Lawrenceburg. The original was 20 years old and had heaved from tree roots. They tore out the old concrete, regraded everything, and poured a new 4-inch reinforced driveway with proper expansion joints. Looks fantastic and the price was very fair for the amount of work involved.

Lawrenceburg

George built a retaining wall along our property line in Culleoka where the yard drops off toward the creek. It's about 40 feet long and 3 feet tall. He included proper drainage behind the wall so water pressure wouldn't push it over. That was two years ago and it hasn't moved an inch despite some heavy rains.
