Garage Floors & Flatwork in Summertown & Southern Middle Tennessee
A garage floor takes more punishment than most people realize — vehicle weight, hot tires, oil, salt, and temperature swings. We pour them to handle all of it.

Garage floors and general flatwork — shop floors, utility pads, equipment slabs — need to be flat, strong, and resistant to the chemicals and impacts they'll face daily. A residential garage floor carries vehicles weighing 4,000 to 8,000 pounds rolling across it every day, handles hot tire contact in summer, and endures road salt and moisture tracked in during winter. It has to be built for that kind of use.
We pour garage floors at a minimum of 4 inches thick, with 5–6 inches recommended for shops and buildings that will see heavier equipment. The concrete mix includes air entrainment for freeze-thaw resistance and we specify a minimum 4,000 PSI mix for garage applications. Reinforcement is fiber mesh or welded wire, with rebar in thickened edges and at any penetrations or transitions.
Flatness matters in a garage or shop. We use laser-guided screeding where possible and hand-check with straightedges to ensure the floor is consistently flat. A floor that dips or humps creates problems — water pools in low spots, equipment doesn't sit level, and vehicle lifts require shimming. We also maintain a consistent slope toward the garage door (about 1/8 inch per foot) so water drains out rather than collecting inside.
Surface finish on a garage floor is typically a steel trowel or light broom. Trowel finish gives a smoother, easier-to-clean surface but can be slick when wet. Broom finish provides more traction. For shops and commercial garages, we can also apply a hardener to the surface during finishing that increases wear resistance and reduces dusting. Epoxy and polyurea coatings can be applied later by specialty contractors over our properly prepared slabs.
Our Garage Floors & Flatwork Process
Every job follows a proven process to ensure lasting results and protect your property throughout.
Layout & Base Prep
We verify dimensions, set grade for proper drainage slope, and install a compacted gravel base with vapor barrier.
Forming & Reinforcement
Edge forms are set, thickened edges are formed, and reinforcement (wire mesh, fiber, or rebar) is placed throughout.
Pour & Finish
Concrete is placed, screeded flat, and finished to your specified texture. Control joints are cut at proper intervals.
Cure & Protect
Curing compound is applied. We recommend keeping vehicles off for 7–14 days and avoiding salt exposure for the first winter.
What Customers Say
Real reviews from homeowners and businesses across Southern Middle Tennessee.
“George poured a 24x24 slab for our detached garage in Summertown. The crew showed up on time, had the forms set by noon, and poured the next morning. It's been two winters now and not a single crack. The man knows his concrete.”
David M.
Summertown
“We had George's crew replace our old driveway in Lawrenceburg. The original was 20 years old and had heaved from tree roots. They tore out the old concrete, regraded everything, and poured a new 4-inch reinforced driveway with proper expansion joints. Looks fantastic and the price was very fair for the amount of work involved.”
Jennifer S.
Lawrenceburg
“George built a retaining wall along our property line in Culleoka where the yard drops off toward the creek. It's about 40 feet long and 3 feet tall. He included proper drainage behind the wall so water pressure wouldn't push it over. That was two years ago and it hasn't moved an inch despite some heavy rains.”
