Storm Shelter Concrete in Summertown & Southern Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee sits in Dixie Alley — second only to Tornado Alley for severe weather. A properly built concrete storm shelter protects what matters most.

Southern Middle Tennessee averages multiple tornado warnings per year, and the region has seen direct hits from EF3 and EF4 tornadoes. A below-grade or in-garage concrete storm shelter is the single most effective way to protect your family during severe weather. These structures need to meet FEMA 320/361 standards and ICC 500 requirements — this isn't a project where "good enough" is acceptable.

We pour the concrete components of storm shelters — reinforced floor slabs, walls, and roof slabs designed to withstand extreme wind pressures and debris impact. The concrete must meet specific strength requirements (typically 4,000 PSI minimum), and reinforcement follows engineered designs with closely spaced rebar in both directions. Wall and roof slab thickness, rebar size, and spacing are all specified in the shelter plans.

Most residential storm shelters we work on are either below-grade installations (in-ground shelters accessed by stairs or a hatch) or above-grade safe rooms built within a garage or utility room. Below-grade shelters are inherently more protected but require excavation and waterproofing. Above-grade safe rooms are easier to access quickly and work well when built into a garage slab during new construction or a renovation.

We work with shelter manufacturers and engineers who provide the approved plans. Our job is to execute the concrete work precisely — correct rebar placement, proper concrete consolidation (no voids or honeycombing), anchor bolt placement for door frames, and smooth wall surfaces for the steel door assemblies to seal against. There's no room for error in this work, and our experience pouring structural concrete for over three decades ensures it's done right.

Our Storm Shelter Concrete Process

Every job follows a proven process to ensure lasting results and protect your property throughout.

1

Plan Review & Site Assessment

We review the approved shelter plans, assess the installation site, and coordinate with the shelter manufacturer on specifications.

2

Excavation & Forming

For below-grade shelters, we excavate and prepare the site. Forms are built to exact dimensions with proper rebar placement per engineered plans.

3

Pour & Consolidate

Concrete is poured and vibrated to eliminate voids. Wall and roof pours are done in sequence to ensure proper bonding and structural integrity.

4

Finish & Waterproof

Surfaces are finished, anchor bolts are verified, and waterproofing is applied to below-grade surfaces. The shelter is ready for door and ventilation installation.

What Customers Say

Real reviews from homeowners and businesses across Southern Middle Tennessee.

George poured our storm shelter pad and the concrete floor inside the shelter. He made sure the pad was level and thick enough to anchor the shelter bolts properly. We feel a lot safer knowing it was done right. He also poured a small walkway from the back door to the shelter. Great work, great people.

We had George's crew replace our old driveway in Lawrenceburg. The original was 20 years old and had heaved from tree roots. They tore out the old concrete, regraded everything, and poured a new 4-inch reinforced driveway with proper expansion joints. Looks fantastic and the price was very fair for the amount of work involved.

Lawrenceburg

George built a retaining wall along our property line in Culleoka where the yard drops off toward the creek. It's about 40 feet long and 3 feet tall. He included proper drainage behind the wall so water pressure wouldn't push it over. That was two years ago and it hasn't moved an inch despite some heavy rains.
