Concrete Driveways in Summertown & Southern Middle Tennessee
A concrete driveway is the first thing people see when they pull up to your home. We build them to last 30 years or more — properly graded, reinforced, and finished right.

A concrete driveway takes more abuse than almost any other surface on your property. It handles the weight of vehicles every single day, endures Tennessee's freeze-thaw cycles from November through March, and sits exposed to summer heat that can push surface temperatures past 140°F. Building one that lasts requires getting the base preparation, concrete mix, reinforcement, and finishing right — not just one of those things, all of them.
George Witherspoon Concrete starts every driveway job with proper excavation and base prep. In Southern Middle Tennessee, the soil is predominantly limestone-based clay, which expands and contracts with moisture changes. We excavate to the correct depth, install a compacted gravel base (typically 4–6 inches of crushed limestone), and verify proper drainage grading before any concrete is poured. Skipping or rushing this step is the number one reason driveways crack and settle within a few years.
We pour a minimum 4-inch slab for residential driveways, reinforced with either fiber mesh or #4 rebar on 18-inch centers depending on the load requirements. For driveways that will see heavier vehicles — trucks, RVs, trailers — we increase thickness to 5 or 6 inches with heavier reinforcement. Control joints are cut at proper intervals to manage cracking, and we use air-entrained concrete rated for Tennessee's freeze-thaw exposure.
Finishing is where experience shows. After screeding and bull-floating, we hand-finish edges and apply either a broom finish for traction or a smooth steel-trowel finish depending on the customer's preference. We also offer exposed aggregate and stamped finishes for homeowners who want something more decorative. Every driveway gets a quality cure-and-seal application to protect against moisture intrusion and surface scaling during its critical first winter.
Most residential driveways in the Summertown and Lawrenceburg area take 2–3 days from excavation to finished pour. We recommend staying off the surface for 7 days and avoiding heavy vehicles for 30 days to allow proper curing. A well-built concrete driveway in this part of Tennessee should give you 25–30 years of solid service with minimal maintenance.
Our Concrete Driveways Process
Every job follows a proven process to ensure lasting results and protect your property throughout.
Site Evaluation & Layout
We assess soil conditions, drainage patterns, and grade. We stake out the driveway dimensions and confirm the layout with you before digging.
Excavation & Base Prep
We excavate to the proper depth, remove unsuitable soil, install and compact a crushed limestone base, and set forms to the correct grade.
Reinforcement & Pour
Rebar or fiber mesh reinforcement is placed, then we pour air-entrained concrete and screed it to a consistent thickness.
Finishing & Joints
We hand-finish edges, apply your chosen surface texture (broom, smooth, stamped, or exposed aggregate), and cut control joints at proper spacing.
Cure & Seal
A curing compound and sealer are applied to protect the new concrete. We walk you through the curing timeline and care instructions.
What Customers Say
Real reviews from homeowners and businesses across Southern Middle Tennessee.
“We had George's crew replace our old driveway in Lawrenceburg. The original was 20 years old and had heaved from tree roots. They tore out the old concrete, regraded everything, and poured a new 4-inch reinforced driveway with proper expansion joints. Looks fantastic and the price was very fair for the amount of work involved.”

Lawrenceburg
“George poured a driveway extension and turnaround area at our place outside Chapel Hill. He was upfront about the timeline — said it would take about a week with weather delays and it took exactly that. The finished product is solid. Only thing I'd mention is bring your own ideas for finish options because he's more of a straight-to-the-point contractor than a designer, which honestly I appreciated.”
Michelle B.
Chapel Hill
“George built a retaining wall along our property line in Culleoka where the yard drops off toward the creek. It's about 40 feet long and 3 feet tall. He included proper drainage behind the wall so water pressure wouldn't push it over. That was two years ago and it hasn't moved an inch despite some heavy rains.”
